What is mlm, or Multiple Level Marketing?

by Jonathan R McGowan on June 13, 2010

What is mlm, or Multiple Level Marketing? I like to start with a little history Around 1860 – -Henry Heinz, created an organization of 400 salesmen to sell products, like ketchup and pickles, to people who didn’t grow their own.
In 1886 Asa Candler, built a sales force to sell coke syrup.
Out of these organizations came companies that allowed their salespeople to have their “own” business.
In 1890 – David McConnel started the California Perfume Company. Which changed its name to Avon Products in 1937.
In 1905 – Alfred C. Fuller Fuller Brush Company.
In 1931 – Frank Stanley Beveridge and Catherine L. O’Brien founded Stanley Home Products. This is where Mary Kay Ash, founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics; Brownie Wise of Tupperware received their initial training.
In 1934 – Carl Rehnborg started the California Vitamin Corporation selling what today are known as vitamin supplements. In 1939 the company changed its name to Nutrilite Products Company, Inc.
In 1945 – Nutrilite first documented MLM compensation plan was developed.
1945 – Earl Tupper launched Tupperware, it is now operating in 40 countries.
1956 – Dr. Forrest Shaklee used MLM (Network Marketing) to distribute his products.
In 1959 Amway Corporation was founded
In 1963 – Mary Kay Ash creates Mary Kay Cosmetics.
Research from The History of Network Marketing by Tim Sales

Here is the top ranked companies today.
Top Companies
AVON, INC.
Mary Kay Cosmetics
Pampered Chef
Lia Sophia
Scentsy
Herbalife International
Tupperware
As you can see mlm has been around for quite some time and is growing daily.

MLM is people connected by a common system, goal, product or service. The key to success is your ability to offer value, by quality training mentor-ship which allows you train people in your opportunity by duplication.
The greatest part of mlm is your level of success is directly related to your ability to successfully train the people in your business.
This is the true formula for success, and leads to your only chance for succeeding in the mlm industry. SEEK knowledge to market your business like a professional.
